Colours, layouts, fonts \u2013 there are so many options! How do you get organized?<\/p>\n<p>What I like to do is start by creating a visual collage on a piece of paper or screen to map out my yearbook and visualize what it could look like. This is called a inspiration board. What\u2019s great is that Laurentien has an \u201cInspiration Board\u201d tool and it\u2019s really easy to use! You can find it in Laurentien Templates (Inspiration Board).<\/p>\n<p><strong>What\u2019s an inspiration board?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a visual collage of images, colours, textures, fonts and even keywords that express an idea, a mood, a style or a concept. It\u2019s an awesome graphic design tool. You can use it to explain your vision, communicate your intent and inspire creativity.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/laurentien.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Inspiration-Board-01-1024x661.png\" width=\"1024\" height=\"661\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11023 alignnone size-large\" srcset=\"https:\/\/laurentien.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Inspiration-Board-01-980x632.png 980w, https:\/\/laurentien.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Inspiration-Board-01-480x310.png 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) 1024px, 100vw\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Why create an inspiration board?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To define a visual guideline before starting a project.<\/li>\n<li>To ensure the committee is on the same page regarding the project\u2019s aesthetics.<\/li>\n<li>To provide inspiration and encourage the exploration of different creative ideas.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Here are the steps to easily create an inspiration board:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong> Define the objectives<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Before you start, ask yourself a few questions. This is what I ask myself when I start a new project:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What are the yearbook\u2019s theme and style going to be? Will it be sophisticated and glamorous, or fun and colourful?<\/li>\n<li>What emotions do I want to feel when I look at the yearbook in a few years from now?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can find a ton of information at: <a href=\"https:\/\/laurentien.ca\/en\/yearbook-theme-style\/\">https:\/\/laurentien.ca\/en\/yearbook-theme-style\/<\/a><\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><strong> Visual research<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>To get inspired, you can look at different visual sources or go through your school\u2019s previous yearbooks. I tend to draw inspiration from social platforms, fashion magazines, and Boogie, since it has hundreds of inspiring templates with pre-made themes.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li><strong> Select the key elements<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Colour\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>To get that WOW factor, I like to select some specific colours, but not too many, because I don\u2019t want my project to look like a pizza. I start by choosing a dominant colour, then I choose a secondary colour and an accent colour. Sometimes I also add a neutral colour (black, white, grey or beige).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/laurentien.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Inspiration-Board-02.png\" width=\"716\" height=\"169\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11025 alignnone size-full\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" srcset=\"https:\/\/laurentien.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Inspiration-Board-02.png 716w, https:\/\/laurentien.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Inspiration-Board-02-480x113.png 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) 716px, 100vw\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Font<\/strong><br \/>I always recommend using two fonts, or three at the most. You can use a fantasy or script font for your headers, and a serif or sans-serif font for the other texts to make sure they\u2019re easy to read.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/laurentien.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Inspiration-Board-03.png\" width=\"627\" height=\"154\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11027 alignnone size-full\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" srcset=\"https:\/\/laurentien.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Inspiration-Board-03.png 627w, https:\/\/laurentien.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Inspiration-Board-03-480x118.png 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) 627px, 100vw\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Backgrounds, decorative elements, photo frames, etc.<\/strong><br \/>I\u2019ll then add to my inspiration board the backgrounds and any other graphic elements I like and that will be repeated throughout the project. This gives me an overview of all the elements, and allows me to make sure the colours, fonts and graphic elements all look good together. This saves a lot of time and leads to a stunning yearbook!<\/p>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li><strong> Reviewing and fine-tuning<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Once the board is done, I\u2019ll take a step back and ask myself a few more questions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Does the inspiration board accurately reflect what the committee had in mind?<\/li>\n<li>Is it clear and inspiring?<\/li>\n<li>Can it guide the next steps of the project?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To conclude, the inspiration board truly is your committee\u2019s best bet when it comes to starting off your project on a good foot.
