The last year of high school is a huge milestone. For the last five years, high school has shaped your mind and prepared you for life as a young adult. During these years you’ve had unforgettable experiences and you’ll want to ensure you have the best way to preserve them: the graduation yearbook.
It’s often the only thing that will follow you through life and you will cherish it more and more as the years go by. When creating it, you should showcase memorable moments and important events, and be inclusive of all the students in your grade.
Making a yearbook requires a lot of work to gather the content, and also for the overall design. Where can you find inspiration to create a yearbook that lives up to your expectations?
There are many websites and applications (e.g., Pinterest) that can provide a ton of inspiration for all sorts of creations, but you can also inspire yourself from your surroundings. Trends and styles are all around us, you just have to keep your eyes open for them. What are the fashions, colours, and lifestyles of your era? What colours and design elements do you notice in stores and on online shops?

To make it easier, I often recommend that committees find one overarching theme that will be used throughout the yearbook. You can also find inspiration for a theme all around you. Think of a popular movie, a game, scrapbooking, magazines, textures, an era (like the 1990s), nature, etc. There are endless options!

Having a theme will give you a common thread for the colour palette and the graphic elements used from the first to last page. This will avoid having everyone on the committee trying to find a design theme for each page, and it will make for a more aesthetic result when you get your yearbook and flip through the pages.
Have fun creating! ![]()
