The Artful Use of Hot Stamping and Spot UV
Choosing the right elements and areas to which these effects are applied is an important step in designing your yearbook cover. Here are a few tips and examples to help you make smart choices.
Hot Foil Stamping
Effective uses
- To outline a shape or large lettering
- To decorate text
- To highlight fine details in a graphic or element or photo
What to avoid
- Applying foil to extensive areas
- Applying foil to thick lines or lettering
Spot UV
Effective uses
To highlight:
- The main element of a colour image
- Text
- A logo
- A border
- Details such as stars in a starry sky, a few leaves on a tree, a word in a title
- The background! A wide range of textures can be created using spot UV: wood, fabric, leather, patterns, etc.
What to avoid
- Spot UV cannot be applied to leather
Discover all the hot stamping colours available inside the box you received upon signing your contract. Within this box, selective varnish can also be viewed and touched. The textures, colours and images suggested in these examples can be customized. You can even create your own spot UV textures at no extra cost!
